DEA Toolkit
A List Of Helpful Tools For DEAs
When you're out on site, you want to make sure you're armed with the right tools to get the job done. Here at Energy Trust, we've used our decades of expertise to craft a list of essentials for DEAs looking to succeed in the field of energy assessment.

Site Notes
Accurate data collection is the name of the game when it comes to energy assessment. So, comprehensive site notes are a must. Keep all the information in one logical place to make your life easier when it comes to lodgement.

If old-school pen and paper isn't your style, you may choose to use digital site notes on a tablet or an app such as the ecmk SMART Survey app.

Telescopic Ladders
For those hard-to-reach loft spaces, you're going to want some good ladders. It is always best to travel with telescopic ladders, even though they may not be necessary for every survey. Telescopic ladders are the best option for energy assessors since they're portable and easy to carry from site to site.

Laser Measure
Laser measures make short work of obtaining property dimensions. Accurate, fast and easy-to-use - laser measures are an essential tool for energy assessors.

Tape Measure
Tape measures are key for measuring wall thicknesses, insulation and various other elements. It's always good to keep at least one of these with you at all times.
Top Tip! 💡 These can be easily misplaced so make sure you keep a backup in the car, just in case!

Ruler
A ruler is a necessary tool for any good DEA. Get crisp lines on your floor plans with ease using a non-shattering ruler.

Glazing Gap Card
Glazing gap cards are your best friend when it comes to assessing windows to input them into the RdSAP software. Don't go without them!

Spare Batteries
Don't let flat batteries keep you from completing an assessment! It's easy to be caught out, so prepare in advance by keeping extra rechargeable batteries and a charger with you on site.

A Torch Or Lamp
Loft spaces, boiler cupboards and electric meter hiding spots are not always the most well-lit places. So, it's wise to bring your own light! Never get stuck in the dark with a powerful torch or work lamp.

Shoe Covers
Above all, we always want to show respect for our clients and their homes. One way to do this is to wear shoe covers whenever you enter someone's house on an assessment.
